Farming with Nature
Permaculture is a design-based approach to practical sustainability, using systems thinking and approaches that combine regenerative ethics with ecological principles to create sustainable environments. Permaculture was developed in the sub-tropics (Australia) and thus there was some debate about how well it could adapt to practiced in Temperate climates. This film dispenses with any such worries. In this documentary, we take a look at a case study of permaculture in the Austrian Alps, which is snowed over for much of the year. Despite this, by using peramcultrue design and a lifetime's experince, the farm here produces abundant and diverse yields, while attracting interest from people and resturants far and wide.
Peak Moment 49: Replacing Scarcity with Trust
Francis Ayley established over a dozen local currencies in the UK before moving to the U.S. He contrasts our standard, scarcity- and debt-based money system with local currencies in which "there's always as much as you need." Local currencies like his Fourth Corner Exchange issue money when members trade goods and services. Communities with local currencies will be less affected when recession or depression hits the mainstream economy.
Establish Eden (Food Forest) with Love / Permaculture
In this video with Geoff Lawton, the implementation of permaculture methods such as forest gardening are introduced, explained, and Lawton guides you through his very own Forest Garden located in Australia.
"Its our testament as designers really, that we can produce high quality soil, very stable eco-systemic forests that will produce indefinitely. It should encourage people that we can inhabit the earth forever with very little effort in an ongoing system that is permanent, we can be very confident that the future can look extremely bright, healthy, and productive." - Geoff Lawton
Tropical Permaculture Strategies with Bill Mollison
This is the Tropical episode of Global Gardener a series which explains the basic application and understanding of permaculture. Bill Mollison the founder of the term "Permaculture" explains how his concept is applied in the tropical regions of earth.
"In the tropics plow agriculture is totally inappropriate for cropping.. if you produce a system that doesn't destroy the basic resources like soil, and produces negligible pollution then you have something that can go on forever." - Bill Mollison
